Buy a Category B+ Driving License Online
If you're looking to become truck driver, you'll need a commercial drivers license (CDL). There are many different types of CDLs, each allowing you to operate specific types of vehicles.
Class B is a common type of CDL that allows drivers to drive single vehicles that weigh 26,001 pounds or more and to carry trailers that weigh up to 10,000 pounds. Drivers can also earn endorsements to increase their capabilities.
What is a Class B+ License?
A Class B+ license allows you to drive bigger vehicles and trailers compared to a normal car licence (category b). This is because category B+ driving licence holders have been through an additional testing process and have been "given" the B+E license with the highest towing limit. The limit for towing depends on the date that your B+E license was issued by the government. Check out the following section under "Licence towing limits".
A Category B+ driving license is similar to a Commercial Driver's License, or CDL. The difference is that a Class A CDL will allow you to operate a variety of tractor trailers and trucks, while the Class B CDL will only let you drive large single vehicles with a GVWR of 26,000 pounds or more and a towed cargo vehicle that weighs less than 10,000 pounds. This type of licence is perfect for drivers who wish to find an entry-level job in the trucking industry but aren't old enough to get a Class A CDL.
The UK is one of only one or two countries in the world where you can get a category B+ driving license which is why it's worth considering this option in the event of moving to the UK and working as truck driver. The British government has changed how they issue the category B+ license and you should visit the gov.uk website for more information. The changes mean that it's becoming more difficult to legally get a category B+ licence, but you'll still be able to tow your trailer up to the maximum limit if you pass your B+E test prior to the 19th January 2021. After the date, you'll only be permitted to tow your trailer up to a maximum weight of 3,500kg.
What are the requirements for a Class B+ licence?
To obtain a class B+ license, you must meet the requirements of your state. The requirements vary from state to state, but they do require a non-commercial permit and being able to meet the state's minimum age requirement. You may need to pass a physical examination and a drug test. You might also have to pass an oral exam and driving test.

If you have an 'category B' licence with code 96 or BE, you are able to drive a trailer or vehicle combination of up to 3,500kg MAM (the maximum allowed mass of the vehicle and trailer). Check the MAM of your vehicle and your trailer by looking at Section 5 "Classification" on your vehicle registration certificate. If you're in possession of a category B licence that does not have code 96 or BE, you are able to only drive a trailer that weighs up to 750kg MAM.
Towing limits for drivers who passed the test for category B+E prior the 19th January 2013 for UK licence holders, the maximum weight of a trailer which can be driven with a category B or BE licence is now limited to 3,500kg MAM. the shared MAM of the trailer and car must not exceed 7,000kg. The only exception is if the trailer and vehicle are registered in Norway or another EEA member state, and the vehicles are exempted through an amendment to the vehicle registration certificate, that is accompanied by an entry on the driving licence information page or by the category B+E licence certificate (which can be obtained from the DVLA).
You are not able to obtain a full Category C1+E permit without passing the test for a medium-sized trailer or lorry. This includes passenger vans as well as small HAZMAT vehicles, and HAZMAT vehicles with the necessary equipment to transport hazardous materials. Visit your local DVLA or look up the driving licence information on the DVLA website for more details. You may also be able to take part in a driver's training course to prepare you for this exam. This could be done through an approved driver education school or a private course that you can take.
How much is the cost of a Class B+ license?
The Class B+ license could be a great career choice for those who want to begin in the trucking industry. It is important to keep in mind that training programs are costly and that states have specific fees for licensing and testing. To minimize the financial burden, opt to enroll in an CDL school that offers tuition assistance or financial support for their students.
Another way to minimize costs is to complete the ELDT course online prior to beginning training, which can help reduce the time spent at the truck driving school. This will reduce the cost of lodging near a school and help prevent new drivers from having to pay for additional expenses. C1 Truck Driver Training offers the ELDT as part of their program fees. The course can be completed online before arriving, saving the student from a week of classroom instruction.
A Class B+ is a fantastic way to enter the industry and gain valuable work experience before attempting to apply for full time jobs. It is important to remember that the vehicle must be a single vehicle with a GVWR over 26,001 pounds and cannot be attached to a trailer. The handling of these vehicles is similar to passenger cars, so it's simple for those with an a driver's license of Category B to master the art of driving them. These vehicles are a great option for those who prefer to spend their time at home, rather than out on the road.
